alexI am a second year PhD student supervised by Prof. Boris Lenhard at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre. I am currently investigating the evolution of gene regulation with particular emphasis on the turnover of regulatory elements within genomic regulatory blocks (GRBs). My project aims to use computational techniques to identify and characterize GRBs undergoing high and low regulatory turnover, with the intention of identifying shared regulatory mechanisms within the two groups.
Before joining the Clinical Sciences Centre I studied at the University of Cape Town, where I obtained a BSc in Genetics, Biochemistry and Microbiology and a BSc Honours in Medical Genetics. I then went on to complete an MSc in Human Molecular Genetics at Imperial College London under the co-supervision of Dr Toby Andrew and Dr Kourosh Ahmadi.
